Privacy Policy

In short No accounts. No tracking. No analytics. No ads. WiFi X-Ray scans your own network locally and shows you the results. It does not have a server, and it never uploads your devices, networks, or scan results anywhere.

What WiFi X-Ray does on your Mac

WiFi X-Ray is a network scanner. To show you what's on your Wi-Fi and around you, it reads information that's already present on your local network and your Mac:

  • Nearby Wi-Fi networks and your connection details (via Apple's CoreWLAN).
  • Devices on your local network (via the ARP cache, Bonjour/mDNS, and SSDP/UPnP discovery).
  • Bluetooth devices advertising near you (a passive scan via CoreBluetooth).
  • Your router's posture for the Security audit (Wi-Fi encryption, UPnP, and exposed services).

All of this is processed on your Mac and shown to you. It stays on your Mac.

What WiFi X-Ray stores

Preferences and the device names/labels you create are saved locally on your Mac (in standard app storage). You can clear them at any time. None of it leaves your device, and there is no cloud sync.

Data we collect: none

WiFi X-Ray does not collect, transmit, sell, or share personal information. There is no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no crash-reporting service, and no tracking of any kind. WiFi X-Ray does not ask you to create an account.

Network connections WiFi X-Ray makes

  • Local network only, for scanning. Device discovery talks only to devices on your own LAN.
  • Internet speed test (optional, Pro). If you run the speed test, the app downloads from Cloudflare's public speed endpoint (speed.cloudflare.com) to measure throughput. No personal data is sent; it's a standard download. If you never run the speed test, WiFi X-Ray makes no internet requests for its core features.
  • UPnP descriptions. During a scan, WiFi X-Ray may fetch a device's self-published UPnP description page from your LAN to identify it (e.g. the make and model of a TV or router). These requests stay on your local network.

Location permission

macOS requires an app to have Location permission before it will reveal Wi-Fi network names (SSIDs). WiFi X-Ray requests this permission for that single reason. It does not read, store, or transmit your geographic location. If you decline, WiFi X-Ray still works — some network names may appear blank.

Purchases

WiFi X-Ray Pro is a one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. WiFi X-Ray never sees your payment details. Purchase status is verified on-device via Apple's StoreKit.

Children

WiFi X-Ray is a utility for general audiences and does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above. Because WiFi X-Ray collects nothing, changes will be rare.
